Social commentator Dani Regha has criticized the backlash against a viral video showing a group of Northerners eating together, describing the reactions as unfair and driven by ignorance.
Regha argued that there was nothing inherently wrong with the eating arrangement, noting that the food was placed on a protective covering rather than directly on the ground. He also pointed out that communal eating is a long-standing cultural practice in many parts of Nigeria and other countries.
According to him, many Nigerians from different regions grew up sharing meals from the same tray and eating with their hands, making the criticism of the Northern tradition inconsistent.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to respect cultural differences and refrain from condemning or stereotyping an entire region or ethnic group over practices they may not personally relate to, describing such attitudes as divisive and unnecessary.
