"Have over a dozen websites running on @Namecheap and all of them are down," writes Ahamed Nishadh. "These guys have been very reliable for the last several years. Quick support, excellent uptime, etc. But today's incident is worrying. My clients are already talking about changing servers. I'm not planning on jumping ship yet. But, it's going to be a long way to build up that trust again."
Others aren't as patient. "16 clients hosted on your top-tier VPS plan, all down for hours with zero ETA," tweeted Joe Livengood. "My clients are texting me nonstop, and I have nothing to tell them. This is ridiculous for a 'top; hosting tier. Any actual timeframe, or are we all just guessing at this point?"
In response, Namecheap CEO Hillan Klein tweeted that he "will work extremely hard to rebuild trust after this incident. Right now, we're working hard to get all of our services back online as fast as we can."
Cooling System Failure
Namecheap's CEO says the data center didn't just suffer a power outage, but a "failure of its cooling systems." On X, Hillan Klein writes: "To protect our customers’ infrastructure and prevent equipment from overheating or suffering longer-term damage, we made the difficult but necessary decision to take affected services offline while we work with the data center operator to resolve the issue. We anticipate that the third chiller will be back online in approximately 3 hours, at which point we believe we will be able to begin bringing our services back online."
Klein added: "The impact is broad, currently affecting more than 5,000 servers."
