The Ogun State Police Command has announced the killing of two suspected kidnappers allegedly linked to the abduction of the Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris, following an intelligence-led operation in the Agoro/Imodi axis of the state.
The police said the operation came days after the victim regained his freedom unharmed following sustained pressure mounted on the kidnapping gang.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Prince Idris was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30pm after armed men reportedly invaded his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.
Babaseyi said that upon receiving the report of the abduction, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed the immediate activation of the Command Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim's release and arrest those responsible.
He said sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on July 3, 2026, adding that operatives subsequently intensified efforts to track down members of the gang.
"Following the victim's release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis. On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel," Babaseyi stated.
The police spokesperson added that the officers responded with force, leading to the killing of two suspected kidnappers, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
According to the police, a search conducted on the deceased suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for ransom collection, and other exhibits linked to the alleged kidnapping operation.
The police said the bodies of the suspects had been deposited in a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and recover additional exhibits.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Police Commissioner praised the courage and professionalism of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams.
Ojajuni reiterated the Command's commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal networks operating across Ogun State.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring the public that intelligence-led policing and tactical operations would be sustained to safeguard lives and property across the state.
